Eating Alpaca Meat in Chivay, Peru

Eating alpaca meat in Chivay, Peru. We had been in South America for over three years and I’d wanted to try alpaca on many occasions but was hesitant.

It took me awhile to process that they are not endangered animals and trying this specialty in Peru was a must-do, and ok to do. Is like eating cow in America.

Chivay, Peru is where we bussed to from Arequipa to begin our two month stay in the Colca Canyon, and the first place I tried alpaca; at a little market stand, cut into small chunks and fried with potatoes.

Loved it, ate two to three small plates of it daily. Tastes like lamb.

I splurged on an alpaca steak lunch on my 45th birthday spent in Cusco, Peru – again, tastes like lamb and loved it!
